A court in France has sentenced former President Nicolas Sarkozy to five years in prison in a case of receiving funds from Libya for his campaign, according to Mehr News Agency.
According to media sources, the Paris Criminal Court sentenced Sarkozy for “criminal cooperation”, but acquitted of bribery charges and illegal financing of electoral campaigns.
This sentence is not yet certain, and it is possible for a 5 -year -old Sarkozy to appeal. However, he has always denied the allegations.
The allegations against Sarkozy in this case relate to the transfer of illegal funds by Muammar Gaddafi, the ruler of Libya, to his presidential campaign in year 2.
In addition to the former French president, twelve others, including three former ministers, were also accused of controversial political process.
