In response, the Egyptian Intelligence Agency issued a statement that the presence of the Egyptian army in Sinai or any other part of the country is “based on the evaluations of high military leadership to maintain national security”.

The forces in Sina have been deployed to secure borders and counter threats such as terrorism and trafficking, and this presence is in full coordination with the parties of the Peace Treaty, the statement said.
