The move occurs hours after French President Emmanuel Macron announced that his country would recognize the Independent Palestinian state at the United Nations Monday this week.
He said: “I again announced to Mahmoud Abbas that France will recognize the” Palestinian government in New York “on Monday.
Macron emphasized that recognizing the Palestinian state is “part of a comprehensive regional peace plan” aimed at providing Israelis and Palestinians in the field of security and peace.
The French president also said that Abbas has again determined to implement the necessary reforms aimed at renovating the structure of Palestinian governance and countering the challenges of stability in the future of Palestine.
“We will continue to support Palestinian institutions and guarantee that we fulfill our obligations to secure and stability in the region,” Macron added.
The French presidential office also warned in a statement that “the annexation of the West Bank is a bright red line.”
AFP also quoted Elysee as saying that four countries, including France, will recognize the Palestinian government during the New York conference on Monday.
Earlier, Luxembourg, another European country, announced that it intends to recognize the independent Palestinian state.
