Emergency medical sources in Portugal said at least four people were killed and four others were wounded as a result of the departure of one of the Gloria train wagons in Lisbon.

According to officials, the identities and citizenship of the victims have not yet been identified, but some of the dead were foreign nationals.

Carlos Maudas“Today is a sad day for our city,” Lisbon mayor told reporters. Lisbon is sitting in mourning. “This is a very tragic incident.”

The Guardian announced that images released from the scene show that the cable train wagon was completely collapsed and that relief workers were pulling passengers out of the carcass.

Portuguese President Marcelo Rablo De Sosa also regretted the incident that the authorities would soon determine the cause of the accident.

The rail line, which opened in year 6, connects the city center of Lisbon near the restaurant Square to the historic Bayer Alto neighborhood.

According to local media reports, including CNN Portugal, the wagon was not damaged at the bottom of the line, but passengers were forced to jump out of the windows to save their lives.
