Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jarshankar today at the Kremlin, according to the Mehr News Agency.

The talks were held at the Kremlin’s office, attended by Secretary of State Sergei Lavrov, First Deputy Prime Minister Dennis Mantorv, who heads the Russian-Hend Inter-State Commission on Commerce, Economics, Science, Technology and Cultural Cooperation, as well as Wina Kumar, the Ambassador to Delhi.

Putin on August 6, in a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, spoke about the bilateral participation of Moscow and Delhi and informed him of the Moscow-Washington summit in Alaska. The Russian president also hosted Indian National Security Adviser in the Kremlin on August 7 in the Kremlin.

The Indian Foreign Minister’s visit came as US President Donald Trump in early August cited India’s extra 5 % tariff on Indian goods and the reason for the continuation of Russian oil purchases by India; An act that has exacerbated the tension between Washington and New Delhi. This additional tariff will bring the tariff rate on Indian exports to 5 %.
