The gradual dissolution of the Center for the Consultation of Russian Influence in the Trump administration – Mehr News Agency | News of Iran and the World
US National Intelligence Director Tolsi Gabard said in a statement that the main missions of the unnecessary “foreign influence” center will be transferred to other institutions, according to Mehr News Agency.
The US Congress founded the center in 2008 following claims by Russian intervention in the US presidential election that led to Donald Trump’s victory. While Moscow has rejected the claim, Trump and Republicans have claimed that the allegations have been part of the Democratic attempt to illegitimate his victory in the elections and weaken his presidency.
Gabdard said the former government used the “center of foreign influence” and its previous versions to justify the suppression of freedom of expression and censorship of political opponents.
He has released various documents since mid -July, claiming that former US President Barack Obama’s senior government officials have exposed the coup against Trump and the charge of conspiracy to Russia against him. Gabard said on Tuesday that, contrary to claims, “Moscow does not appear to have preferred one of the candidates to another.”
