UN Secretary -General condemned reporters in Gaza – Mehr News Agency | Iranian and world news
A spokesman for the UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres has condemned the killing of reporters in the Gaza Strip in an Israeli air strike, according to Mehr News Agency.
“I can tell you that the UN Secretary -General condemns the killing of six Palestinian reporters in the Israeli air strike on Gaza and calls for independent and impartial investigations into the recent killings,” said Stefan Dujarik.
“These recent killings highlight the severe risks that reporters face when covering this constant conflict,” he said.
“Reporters and media staff must be respected, they must be protected and allowed to do their job freely, without fear and harassment,” a spokesman for Guterres said. Reporters have difficulty transferring information in Gaza and their work should be facilitated. However, the mission of reporters in Gaza is getting more difficult every day.
Referring to investigations into the assassination of Al Jazeera reporters, Dujarik said: “We acknowledge the difficulty of investigating the conflict, but punishment and accountability must be guaranteed.” The pressure must continue to ensure the accountability of those involved in the killing of reporters in Gaza.
A UN Secretary -General spokesman said: “The United Nations has tried to help the Gaza people, end the conflict and release the captives.” There is no military solution in Gaza. We need a ceasefire, and the United Nations is ready to provide the necessary facilities for the return of the Palestinians and Israelis to the negotiating table.
