German Defense Secretary Boris Pistorius said the country would deliver two Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine after agreeing with the United States.
According to the agreement, Germany will be the first country to receive the latest version of the Patriot system from the United States in exchange for sending Patriot to Ukraine.
In a statement, the German defense minister said: “Thanks to the US commitment, Germany can initially support Ukraine by sending launchers and then by parts of the Patriot system.”
According to the statement, the German army will first send additional Patriot launches to Ukraine in the coming days and then provide additional parts of the system within two or three months.
Berlin will also receive a new version of the Patriot system from the United States at a far faster rate than other countries.
Ukraine’s need for air defense is increasingly felt as Russian air strikes against Ukraine intensify this summer. According to Reuters, Patriot defensive systems have shown that they are effective in destroying Russian ballistic missiles!
