A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce in response to the EU’s decision to put Beijing’s financial companies and institutions in the 18th package of sanctions against Russia, stressed that China would not abide by the European Union.
The Chinese trading official, pointing out that the EU has unilaterally included Chinese companies on the list of sanctions and penalties against two Beijing financial institutions on baseless charges, complained and numerous protests in China.
He emphasized that China has always opposed unilateral sanctions that lack the international basis and the UN Security Council authorization.
According to him, the EU actions contradict the consensus between the leaders of China and the European Union, and will strongly overshadow economic and trade relations as well as financial cooperation between China and Brussels.
A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce added: Beijing calls on the European Union to immediately stop the inclusion of Chinese companies and financial institutions on the sanctions list. China will take appropriate steps in order to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and financial institutions.
