Cologne officials ordered the city’s widespread evacuation following the discovery of three unbiased bombs that have launched from World War II, according to Mehr News Agency.
Officials discovered the explosives on Monday, including two 1,000kg bombs and a 5 -kilogram bomb, all -constructed in the center of the Duits area in the eastern Bank of the Rhine River.
According to officials, about 8,000 citizens have been evacuated from the area since 8am local time.
The Cologne municipality said in a statement that it is the largest evacuation operation since the end of World War II, and all the neutralization teams present at the site hope the thwarting process will be completed by the end of today.
Due to the redirection or cancellation of many trains, the German National Railway Company warned of widespread disruption to trains. The evacuation operation has also severely overshadowed road traffic around Cologne.
The discovery of unjustified bombs in Cologne and throughout Germany is not an unusual event. Decades after the end of World War II, thousands of tonnes of unpredictable explosives are still buried under the cities.
The southeastern city of Cologne also witnessed extensive evacuation operations in September last year after the discovery of a bomb, with more than 3,000 homes left.
