Kremlin: An explosion has occurred in the Crimea Bridge but has not been damaged
A spokesman for the Kremlin confirmed an explosion on the Crimea Bridge, stressing that no damage was done to the bridge.
According to RCO News Agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that there was an explosion on the Crimea Bridge, but said no damage had been done to the bridge.
“Yes, there has really been an explosion, but there is no damage and the bridge is still operating,” he said.
On Tuesday, the Ukrainian security service issued a statement announcing a bombing in the underwater base that would connect the Crimean Peninsula to Russian territory.
“Our forces mined the foundations of these facilities and the first explosive package was activated without any civilian casualties,” the statement said. “The equivalent of 5 kg of TNT was used in the operation and the underwater pedestals of the bridge were severely damaged at the bottom.”
The Russian Ministry of Transport had also said that traffic was being carried out in the Crimea Bridge as normal and had been closed three times, but this did not cause serious impairment for drivers.
A spokesman for the Kremlin also said that, given the well -known nature of Ukrainian authorities, Moscow is taking the necessary measures to protect its infrastructure.
“Kiev continues to strive to attack civilian institutions,” he said. “The Russian side also takes appropriate precautions due to the well -known nature of Kiev.”
Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula in southern Ukraine in 2008, but there was no landway between Russia’s mainland and the quasi -pseudonym. Therefore, Moscow built a bridge in the Kerch Strait. The bridge for Russia is a symbol of the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 1 and a great political victory.
On the other hand, the port of Sevastopol in the Crimean Peninsula is the location of the Navy’s Black Sea fleet and is a highway for fuel, food and other products to the area. Kerch was also a vital communication route for the transfer of Russian troops at the beginning of the attack on Ukraine and played a key role in the occupation of the Khorson and Zapurgia.
In response to a question about the Russian -Ukraine talks, Peskov said that determining the new round of talks depends on the will of the parties.
“It is probably not possible to determine a regular cycle for the negotiations,” he said. “It depends on how much the parties want to continue the conversations.”
Peskov added that the draft review of the notes presented by the parties will be time -consuming and then the next round of the negotiations will be determined.
