China rejected Trump’s charges of violating the Geneva Agreement

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce’s comment was in response to US President Donald Trump’s remarks on Friday, claiming that China had violated a bilateral agreement to reduce tariffs.

The ministry said China has implemented and actively supported the agreement in Geneva last month, while the United States has taken several “discriminatory and restrictive” actions against China.

The ministry also added that the measures included guidelines to control the export of artificial intelligence chips, stop the sale of chip design software to China, and the cancellation of Chinese students’ visas.

“The US government has unilaterally and repeatedly provoked new economic and commercial tensions and has increased instability and uncertainty in bilateral economic and commercial relations,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to Reuters, the ministry did not explain what decisive measures could be taken in response.

Beijing and Washington agreed in Geneva in mid -May to stop the implementation of three -digit tariffs for five days.

In addition, China had promised to cancel trade retaliation that restricted vital metal exports to the production of semiconductors, electronics and US defense industries.

Trump also announced on Friday that it has doubled the tariff on steel and aluminum imports to 2 %.

Although China is the largest steel manufacturer and exporter in the world, after the 5 % tariff in year 2, its steel exports to the United States have been very small and almost eliminated. China ranks third among aluminum suppliers.
