Columbia University Graduation Ceremony
Colombian University students converted to the university’s graduation ceremony by chanting slogans in support of pro -Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, protesting against his arrest and supporting Palestine.
According to RCO News Agency, the interim chief of Columbia University, when referring to the Palestinian absence, Mahmoud Khalil, was met with a graduation speech.
Despite the serious warning of university officials, Wednesday, when Claire Shipman, the interim head of Columbia University, in his speech referred to the absence of a graduate and pro -Palestinian student, Mahmoud Khalil, the voice of protest and Ho was heard on the campus of Colombia.
Instead of attending a graduation ceremony, Mahmoud Khalil is now fighting for immigration and possible expulsion in Louisiana.
Several Palestinian flags and the Zionist regime were among the many graduates of blue clothes, while nearly 6,000 students entered a rainy day in New York to attend the ceremony. Others had shawl -style scarves on the neck that have become a symbol of solidarity with Palestine.
The shouting of protesting students
“Many members of our society today are mourning for the absence of our student Mahmoud Khalil,” Shipman said.
The comment came a day after that Shipman had faced severe hobs and slogans “Release Mahmoud” at another graduation ceremony.
This led university officials to warn on Wednesday morning before the ceremony began to tolerate “no disruption to the audience’s speeches or behaviors.”
Mahmoud Khalil was to attend the event as a graduate student at Columbia University. But it is now held at a federal immigration detention center in Louisiana and prepares itself for the immigration court to confront the arrest that his lawyers have “illegally” and possible expulsion.
Khalil, who is born in Syria and holder of Green Card, was involved in organizing Palestinian support rallies last year on Columbia University.
Two months ago, he was arrested by the US Migration and Customs Office in his apartment in New York, and is within the framework of the Trump administration’s strict policies against international students who are considered a threat to US foreign policy.
Prior to the celebration of Colombia University on Wednesday, university officials said: “At the ceremony, all participants and guests are committed to complying with university laws including behavioral regulations, anti -confidence regulations and discipline. “People who violate them are prohibited from continuing and may be fired.”
With the intensification of the rain, Shipman began his speech, which received different reactions from the crowd; Some encouraged him and others encouraged him.
