Russia banned the “amnesty international” activity
The Russian prosecutor general called Amnesty International a “undesirable organization” and announced that its activity on Russian territory has been banned. The decision came after Russian authorities accused the human rights group of bias from Ukraine and the military conflict.
According to RCO News Agency, the Russian Prosecutor’s Office announced today (Monday) that the London Office of Amnesty International has been banned in the country and has been named as “undesirable organization”. The reason for this decision is the alleged support of this human rights institution in Ukraine in the war against Russia.
Amnesty International, founded in London in 2008 and its headquarters in London, is recognized as a global defense of human rights and support for prisoners, according to Reuters.
The Russian General Prosecutor’s Office claimed that the London office has become the “Center for Designing of the Russian World Projects” and defends Ukraine’s interests.
“The organization has made every effort to intensify military conflict in the region,” the statement said. “They justify the crimes of the Ukrainian neo -Naza, call for increased financial support, and insist on the political and economic isolation of our country.”
Russian officials have always accused the Ukrainian government of influencing the Neonazis; The claim has been rejected by Ukraine, Western countries and many international observers as baseless propaganda.
Amnesty International has not yet responded to Reuters’ request to comment.
In recent years, the Russian government has listed organizations that threaten its national security in itself on the list of “undesirable organizations”. According to Russian law, cooperation with such institutions can have up to five years in prison for Russian citizens.
