The British Foreign Minister said London is working with Washington to ensure the continuation of the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and conducting “trust measures” and dialogue.
At the end of his two -day trip to Islamabad, Pakistan, British Foreign Minister David Lami told Reuters: “We will continue to cooperate with the United States to achieve a sustainable ceasefire, talk and cooperate with Pakistan and India on how to gain confidence and trust.”
The armed rivals in South Asia on May 10, with a ceasefire in the worst clash for nearly three decades, agreed after a deadly attack on tourists who blame Delhi, Islamabad. Pakistan rejects interference in attacking tourists.
Responding to a question about the suspension of the Sindh River Water Treaty by India, which potentially pressure Pakistani water supply, Lemi said, “We want all sides to fulfill their obligations of their treaty.”
Pakistan has said that the United Kingdom and other countries, in addition to the United States, have played an important role in reducing the severity of the conflict. Diplomats and analysts say the ceasefire is still fragile.
