Congress Democrats seek to prevent weapons from selling to the UAE
At the same time as Trump’s visit to the region, the Democrats of the US Congress have sought to block the sales of arms to the Persian Gulf in the Gulf due to the UAE’s involvement in Sudan’s civil war and concern over Ramsar’s relations.
According to RCO News Agency, the effort was made by the US Congress Democrats just the day when US President Donald Trump announced new $ 5 billion contracts with the UAE.
Chris Murphy, Chris Phone Hollen, Brian Shatz and Tim Kane, Democratic Congress and Bernie Sanders, an independent member, presented opposition resolutions in the Senate, preventing three weapons from selling to the UAE, according to Reuters.
Gregory Mix, a senior democrat for the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of Representatives and Sarah Jacobs, a senior Democrat at the African subsidiary committee, presented opposition resolutions in the House of Representatives.
Senators have raised concerns about the Emirates’ rapid reaction forces in the Sudan Civil War. The UAE has repeatedly denied such charges.
They also referred to the MGX Declaration, an UAE -backed investment company that will use a stubble Kevin by Trump’s World Liberty Financial Financial Financial Investment Investment Company.
Members of the US House of Representatives also said the Trump administration had decided to continue selling weapons to the UAE despite Gregory Mix opposition to such transactions because of his concerns about Sudan clashes.
Mix and Jacobs said in a statement that the Trump administration’s final bypass in Congress is irresponsible and provokes the United Arab Emirates to violate UN weapons sanctions in Darfur and continue its support for the rapid reaction forces and the killing of innocent civilians.
US law requires Congress reviewing major weapons transactions and allows Senate members to vote on opposition resolutions that prevent it from selling. Although the law does not allow the members of the parliament to impose such a decision, the resolutions must be passed in Congress and potentially survived the presidential veto to be implemented.
Among the weapons in the resolutions and are set to sell to the UAE include selling $ 1.5 billion in helicopters and equipment, $ 5 million for the F-1 aircraft and $ 5 million for parts, logistics and support for Apache, Black Hawk and Shinok.
