Zelansky in Türkiye: Russia has sent a fake delegation
The Ukrainian president accused Moscow of misunderstanding in the negotiations in Turkey, saying that we had come here at the highest political and diplomatic level, but Russia has sent a “fake” delegation to Istanbul.
Ukrainian President Walodimir Zelnsky arrived in Ankara a few minutes ago, with direct talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations on the possibility of a ceasefire in Istanbul today (Thursday).
Zelnsky will first meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
At the request of Türkiye, which hosts these talks, talks will be held after lunch.
Zelksky told reporters at the airport that the Ukrainian delegation consisted of “the highest level”, including Foreign Minister Andrey Sibi, Army Representatives and Presidential Office and all intelligence agencies.
The Ukrainian president strongly criticized the Russian delegation for being in the possible peace talks.
In his first remarks after arriving in Ankara, he described the Russian delegation, which has reached Istanbul to participate in direct peace talks between Moscow and Kiev, most of the “toys of a play” and rejected it.
“We are in contact with the American side,” he said. “I believe they will also be in Türkiye at a high level.” In the case of the Russians, we will see. Nothing is officially approved, but than we have seen, it is more like a fake delegation than a serious action.
“What we definitely know is who is actually deciding on Russia,” Zelnsky added. And we will act on it.
The Russian delegation has also arrived in Türkiye to meet Ukrainian representatives for peace talks in Istanbul. The Kremlin has rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Türkiye and has announced that negotiations will be replaced by President Vladimir Madinsky.
A source close to the Ukrainian presidential office told the Kiev Independent newspaper that President Zelnski will decide after meeting Erdogan on his next steps on peace talks with Russia.
“We need to understand what the Russian delegation is, what their mission is, and whether they are able to make an independent decision,” he said.
US President Donald Trump initially expressed optimism about the vision of the meeting and said he may participate if he progresses.
