Zelnski: I look forward to meeting Putin on Thursday
The Ukrainian president finally announced his readiness to meet with the Russian president in Istanbul.
Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier proposed direct talks with Ukraine on May 5 in Istanbul, Turkey, which he said should be aimed at bringing lasting peace and eliminating the roots of the war.
According to Ryanovast News Agency, Ukrainian President Walodimir Zelnski said Sunday evening: “I am waiting for a meeting with Putin on Thursday in Istanbul.”
“We expect a complete and sustainable ceasefire from Monday to provide the basis for diplomacy,” he said.
The Ukrainian President’s remarks come after US President Donald Trump responded to his Russian counterpart on the Social Social Network: “Ukraine must agree to it immediately.”
“I hope this time Russia will not make any excuses that they cannot agree,” Zelksky said.
