Hungary’s fierce opposition to Ukraine membership in the European Union
The Hungarian prime minister said he participated in a national poll and voted in favor of Ukraine in the European Union.
Unlike many EU member states, Hungary has rejected the sending of any deadly weapons to Ukraine and focuses on a peaceful solution to the conflict. It has also repeatedly criticized the EU sanctions against Russia, and its prime minister has described the sanctions and restrictions as a “failure” that merely worse the energy crisis.
According to Ryanovosti, Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Urban, referring to a national poll held in his country, said: “Brussels and the Hungarian opposition party support Ukraine membership in the European Union, but this destroys the Hungarian economy.”
“I voted for the poll and disagreed with Ukraine’s membership in the European Union,” he said.
The poll began in Hungary on April 5, and only one question is asked whether you support Ukraine membership in the European Union.
The poll continues in Hungary and will be completed on June 6, which will be public at the same time and will be sent to Brussels.
