Aliyev: The strengthening of the Azerbaijani -China alliance continues despite the pressure of the West
The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, while launching a three -day official trip to China today (Tuesday), emphasized that Baku and Beijing strengthen their partnerships in the fields of trade, climatic cooperation and common multilateral goals despite the pressure of some Western actors.
According to RCO News Agency, Azerbaijani President Elham Aliyev is starting a three -day official trip to China today with the aim of deepening more strategic relations and partnership between Baku and Beijing.
Aliyev will discuss with Chinese President Xi Jinping to develop a new plan for the development of bilateral relations. Aliyev will also meet with Chinese Prime Minister Lee Chiang and Chairman of the Permanent Committee of the National Congress of the People’s Congress.
On the eve of his trip, the President of Azerbaijan said in an interview with China’s Shinhwa News Agency that relations between Baku and Beijing had “entered a historic stage” following a joint statement by the strategic counterpart he signed with the Chinese president in July.
“We have always defended its interests as part of the South World block (developing countries),” he said.
He added that the two countries have acted in support of “peace, development, equality, justice, democracy and freedom” and have also opposed “hegemony and bullying policy”.
Aliyev also appreciated China for his support at the COP2 climate summit in Baku last November.
He also criticized the Western efforts to isolate the Republic of Azerbaijan at the summit, saying, “Despite the widespread and baseless campaign and boycott against the Republic of Azerbaijan led by some Western circles, we showed our strong political will and professionalism during the event.”
Elham Aliyev pointed to the economic cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and China: “Our 2 -year trade increased by 4.9 percent in year 2 and China became the largest partner of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the import sector.”
“There is still a great potential that has not been used,” he said, referring to investments in technology, energy and infrastructure.
Elham Aliyev also emphasized the importance of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the role of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Middle Corridor project, calling it “the highest route to deliver goods between China and Europe”.
“Our active dialogue, respect and mutual trust play a valuable role in deepening bilateral relations,” the President of Azerbaijan said, referring to the expansion of cooperation in the fields of education, language, tourism and cultural exchanges.
He also emphasized his support for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and said the Republic of Azerbaijan would continue to help world peace and sustainable development.
