Russian President Vladimir Putin today (Monday) condoled the death of Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic world, and noted that during his service, the Pope played an active role in the development of dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church of Rome.

“I had the opportunity to meet this prominent man several times and I will always have a warm memory of him,” he said. “At this sad hour, I would like to express my sympathy and support to you and all the Catholic clerics.”
