Calas: The European Union considers the powerful Ukrainian military to be the strongest deterrent factor

According to RCO News Agency, Calas told reporters after the unofficial meeting of the EU Defense Minister in Warsaw: “The Ministers have discussed how the EU supports security guarantees for Ukraine. The European Union has many tools, ranging from financing Ukrainian defense industries to expanding Russia’s training programs.

On March 5, the media reported that French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron are trying to persuade five countries to form a coalition that sets up their troops in Ukraine and provides security guarantees. After hosting a European summit in Paris in late March, Macron said a number of countries are demanding a “deterrent” to send troops to Ukraine.

The French president, however, said the British -French initiative would be neither a replacement for Ukrainian soldiers nor a peacekeeping force, adding that the goal is to prevent Russia from deploying forces in strategic places.

Russia has repeatedly warned that sending Western weapons to Ukraine and training its military personnel has made NATO countries hostile allies, while at the same time prevented the peace process.
