Erdogan’s readiness to host Ukrainian peace talks in contact with Putin
The Turkish president announced his readiness to host Ukrainian peace talks with his Russian counterpart.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today (Friday) discussed his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on bilateral relations and regional and global issues.
“Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin,” the Turkish presidential office said. “The bilateral relations between Türkiye and Russia as well as regional and international issues were discussed.”
According to the report, four presidents also examined the situation in Ukraine, and Erdogan said Ankara is ready to host Ukrainian peace talks.
“President Erdogan reiterated that measures to ensure the security of the Black Sea trade will help the peace process, and Turkey will continue its efforts to prevent the Black Sea from becoming a stressful area,” the statement said.
The Turkish president said in a conversation that Ankara and Moscow’s cooperation is necessary to solve the region’s problems, and Türkiye is pursuing the current process to end the Ukrainian war. Ankara is ready for any support – including the organization of peace talks – to ensure fair and sustainable peace.
Erdogan also emphasized the importance of joint cooperation between Türkiye and Russia to ensure stability in Syria. “Türkiye -Russia cooperation is important to achieve sustainable peace and stability based on Syrian territorial integrity,” he said. “We can work together to stop the factors that cause ethnic and sectarian discrimination and lift the sanctions completely.”
“It is imperative for Syria to stabilize the country no longer a favorable space for the growth of terrorist organizations,” the statement quoted the Turkish president as saying.
Putin and Erdogan spoke about the results of recent Russian and US officials in Saudi Arabia, and the Russian president recalled Kiev’s continued efforts to attack Russian energy infrastructure, Sputnik reported.
