EU’s new sanctions against Russia
EU diplomats today (Friday) said the union has agreed to extend sanctions against Russian individuals and institutions.
According to RCO News Agency, Brussels further stated that Russian capitalist Mikhail Friedman remains on the EU sanctions list despite Hungary’s pressure.
EU sanctions should be extended every six months by ambassadors of four member states in Brussels, according to Reuters.
The deadline was on Saturday and is now extended until September 9.
Hungary, which has maintained intimate relations with Moscow despite the Ukrainian war, had threatened to extend sanctions if certain people were not left out.
The informed diplomat also said Budapest had initially called for the removal of three names from the sanctions list, but other delegates managed to reduce the number to three Russian citizens.
These include Golbahar Ismailua, the sister of prominent merchant Alishir Osmanov, Wiatchslav Moshe Canguar, a business Minister and Mikhail Degiraf.
The fourth person was Vladimir Rashvsky, a businessman who was eliminated from the EU sanctions list due to a weak law and not Budapest pressure.
The European Union has more than 5 Russian citizens and companies on its sanctions list.
