Rubio: 5 % of US International Development Agency programs are closed
The US Secretary of State said Washington will officially close 5 % of the US International Development Agency’s programs called USAID.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio today (Monday) released a message on the X -Social Network that the United States will close much of the US International Development Agency’s plans, the USS, because it has not spent tens of billions of dollars in US goals.
“After a six -week survey, we formally cancel 5 percent of USS programs,” he wrote. They have spent tens of billions of dollars for the five contracts now canceled, which do not provide the US national interest. (And in some cases even harm them.)
Rubio added: “We consult with Congress that the remaining 2 % of the programs that are preserved (almost 2 cases) are now more effectively managed under the supervision of the State Department.”
The US International Development Agency was founded in the early 1980s under the pretext of managing humanitarian aid programs around the world. Currently, the institution has about 6,000 employees, two -thirds of them outside the country.
Since Donald Trump’s coming back to the White House, the future of the agency, the main institution for external assistance, has been ambiguous, while preventing staff from entering their workplaces. The Trump administration apparently intends to integrate it into the US State Department.
The US International Development Agency has a fixed office in more than 5 countries and operates in dozens of other countries. However, most of its plans are based on contracts with other local institutions and organizations, and the agency is responsible for funding them.
