Pyongyang: US and South Korean exercise is a spark for war
In the latest developments from the Korean Peninsula, North Korea called and condemned US and South Korean exercises “provocative and dangerous acts”.
North Korea called South Korea’s and US joint military exercises a “provocative and dangerous act” and cited the risk of random firing that could lead to physical conflict.
The annual “Freedom Shield” exercise is scheduled to continue until March 5, but the shooting exercises with real ammunition remain stopped, with South Korean fighters mistakenly dropped bombs on a civilian city near the border.
This error injured at least 3 people.
According to Reuters, North Korea has always called for the cancellation of joint US and South Korean exercises, calling them a prelude to invasion.
Meanwhile, the South Korean Army has announced that these joint exercises are being carried out to increase the readiness of the coalition against threats such as North Korea.
“This provocative and dangerous move will exacerbate the critical situation in the Korean Peninsula, and it may even bring the two sides to severe physical conflict, even with a random shooting,” said KSN, the North Korean Foreign Ministry.
The ministry also added that the exercises also endanger US security.
Lee Jung-Su, commander of the South Korean Air Force, bowed and apologized for Monday for the “unprecedented” incident in which two fighters mistakenly bombed the village.
“This incident should not happen and should never be repeated,” Lee told reporters.
Yonhap News Agency reported that one of the fighters did not re -examine the target coordinates due to a lack of time, and the other pilot threw bombs without regard to the incorrect coordinates.
The South Korean Defense Ministry has not commented.
The area damaged by random bombing in Pucheon is about 2 kilometers northeast of Seoul and was outside the training area near the north Korea. Residents of the area have long complained about the harassment and dangers of these exercises.
