German intelligence chief: Russia is looking to test the West
The head of the German intelligence service said Russia seeks to test the Western unity, especially with NATO’s mass defense.
In an interview with Deutsche Welle, Bruno Khael said in an interview with Deutsche Welle that Russia is examining and testing the reality and validity of NATO, which is related to collective defense.
“We very much hope that this is not true and not in this difficult situation,” he said. “We have to assume that Russia wants to test us to test Western unity.”
The German intelligence official also continued that the timing of the NATO’s mass defense clause by Russia depends on the issue of the Ukrainian war.
He noted that if the Ukrainian war ends sooner than 1 or 2, Russia could empower its technical resources, equipment and laughter to target Europe. There may also be a tangible threat or attempt to blackmail Russia against Europeans earlier than previously calculated.
“The early end of the Ukrainian war enables the Russians to guide their height to what they really want against Europe,” the German intelligence chief continued.
He noted that Russia considers the future world order similar to the European situation in the late 1980s; When NATO’s protection was pushed back and Russian influence expanded west. Moscow also sees Europe’s situation in an ideal state without the presence of the US.
