US -American release in Russia before the Riyadh negotiations
Russia released an American prisoner before negotiating with the United States to be held in Riyadh, US media reported.
The Russian newspaper reported that the Russian government on Monday released an American citizen arrested on charges of small marijuana.
The move was on the eve of talks between Russian and US officials in Saudi Arabia.
Calb Bayers Vienna, 2, was arrested on February 4 at Venoko Moscow Airport during the luggage inspection. Earlier, Moscow Airport Customs Officers found jam -containing jam in his luggage.
The developments come as a Kremlin spokesman said the talks are being held in Saudi Arabia today to restore relations between Moscow and Washington, and “so some events can be considered in this context.”
Tensions of America and Russia during the Biden era
During the presidency of Joe Biden, US -Russian relations were extremely stressful. The tensions have increased from widespread sanctions on Moscow over the attack on Ukraine to the dismissal of diplomats and accusing Russia of interfering in the US election.
Washington also accused Russia of carrying out cyber attacks on US infrastructure. In contrast, Moscow has accused the United States of trying to undermine Russian security and the spread of NATO in Eastern Europe.
Now in the second term of President Donald Trump, which has just begun, some of these tensions appear to have declined. A report recently showed that Russia has released another prisoner of the United States, which may be a sign of a change in approach in relations between the two countries.
The White House also announced on Tuesday, February 23, that American teacher Mark Fogel, who was arrested in Russia, was on his way back to the United States after being released from prison. Arrested for about four years on charges of drug trafficking in Russia, he was released during a “exchange” with Moscow.
