Zelnsky: We have not been invited to negotiations in Saudi Arabia
The Ukrainian president, referring to the US and Russia’s decision to talk about Ukraine in Saudi Arabia, announced that Ukraine had not been invited to the meeting.
Ukrainian President Walodimir Zelksky said Saturday evening that Ukraine had not been invited to attend US -Russian talks in Saudi Arabia, planned for next week.
US President Donald Trump announced on February 7 after contacting Russian President Vladimir Putin to start talks with Moscow to end the war in Ukraine.
On February 7, Trump identified Saudi Arabia as a “appropriate” place for these talks.
However, Zelnski emphasized that Ukraine had not been invited to the meeting, stating: “I think it is strange when we had no previous negotiations with our strategic partners. “As far as I remember, Russia is not our strategic partner.”
The Ukrainian president said that Ukraine has not been consulted with the planned US -Russian meeting on the Russian war in Ukraine.
He also emphasized that in his recent interview with Trump, US President did not mention Europe’s presence in possible talks. “Ukraine will never accept the transactions that are made without its interference, and the same law must be applied to the whole of Europe,” he said.
Washington and Moscow’s failure to invite Kiev to attend the talks, as Bloomberg quoted anonymous sources as saying that US and Russian national security consultants plan to meet in Saudi Arabia next week.
According to US media sources, the meeting aims to prepare the ground for a meeting between Trump and Putin and the President’s conversation to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting may be held in late February.
On the other hand, SkyNews News channels reported that four senior US officials are traveling to Saudi Arabia to start the talks.
The news channel quoted five sources as saying that US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Trump’s special envoy Steve Witekaf are traveling to Saudi Arabia.
SkyNews also reported that Washington sent a questionnaire to European capitals to ask them what to provide to guarantee Kiev’s security.
Under such circumstances, Zelnski acknowledged that “ancient times, when the US supported Europe, was over.”
