All US humanitarian projects in Ukraine were suspended
Following the executive order of the US State Department to freeze all foreign aid for 90 days, the US Agency for International Development has also suspended all its humanitarian projects in Ukraine.
According to RCO News Agency, this action is part of Donald Trump’s extensive review of US foreign spending.
According to the Kyiv Post, USAID’s office in Kyiv has received official instructions to freeze funding and activities across Ukraine, although officials at the office did not receive details on whether the cutoff plans included exceptions or if the freeze would How long do programs last?
The suspension affects a wide range of US-funded civilian programs, including energy infrastructure repairs, school reconstruction and medical assistance.
Several Ukrainian organizations that rely on US support have already received notices that their projects must be halted.
Among these organizations is a non-profit organization that supports Ukrainian soldiers returning from the front. The organization’s co-founder, Ivona Kestina, announced on Facebook on Jan. 26 that due to the funding freeze, the organization will be forced to close its veterans support line and is asking local businesses and donors to step up.
The aid freeze follows an executive order signed by President Trump on January 20 that freezes nearly all US foreign aid for a three-month review.
The decision has raised alarm bells among Ukrainian and European officials, as Washington has been one of Kiev’s biggest financial backers since Russia invaded in 2022.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, despite the suspension of this funding, the military aid is still standing.
The Pentagon has confirmed that the freeze does not include military aid, although concerns remain about the long-term viability of the broader foreign aid review.
The Financial Times also reported that American diplomats in the Department of Eurasian and European Affairs of the US Department of State urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to exempt Ukraine from this blockade. Of course, no such action has been taken until January 25.
