When a reporter shouts protest in the position of a human being
In the last press conference of Anthony Blinken – US Secretary of State – two journalists named “Max Blumenthal” and “Sam Hosseini” protested the policies of the United States towards Gaza. Blumenthal accused Blinken of complicity in the “genocide” in Gaza, and Hosseini asked why Blinken was not tried at The Hague. These protests led to their violent expulsion from the hall by the security officers. From the point of view of a communication professor, the incident is a protest of a journalist in a human position to their crimes, but at the same time, it could be an example and a challenge.
According to RCO News Agency, the expulsion and arrest of these two reporters happened when the US Secretary of State refused to answer their questions about the Gaza war. “Why isn’t he in The Hague now (for trial)?” a reporter asked Blinken. who was violently arrested by security officers! Another journalist considered Blinken to be an accomplice of the regime’s genocide in Gaza and committing the Holocaust, and he was also expelled from the hall by security officers.
This happened while the Biden government is coming to an end and in a country that claims to be a democracy, journalists are now treated in the worst possible way in a press conference in front of all the cameras. According to Omid Ali Masoudi, professor of communication, this action can be examined from two perspectives.
raising questions or making accusations; The problem is this
In an interview with Isna, Masoudi, a university professor, believes that the matter can be dealt with in two ways.
He said: At first glance, it should be said that the journalists have been invited to the News conference and should raise their questions. The reporter must ask questions and must always be demanding; Because it raises people’s questions, but you can see that when that reporter raises the question, it is accompanied by shouting and accusations; While we must follow the meeting conditions in our interviews. If they were asking these issues in the form of questions, for example, “We have reports that you massacred 40,000 people. Or you destroyed 30,000 points and…” was more professional.
Emphasizing that the reporter is the representative of the people, Masoudi said: The reporter should ask his own questions. Our work does not proceed in the form of a slogan. We should raise any questions and objections we have from the people in a logical way and get answers. Those reporters could definitely have a challenging discussion. However, it should not be overlooked that they came to the meeting in an inappropriate manner and took these two reporters away, and this behavior was considered an insult to them.
Omid Ali Masoudi
These journalists should be commended
Masoudi looked at the protest of journalists at the Blinken conference in a different way, and examined their position apart from the position of journalists and from a human point of view and in the position of a human being and said: Another angle is that yes, they have committed a crime and the reporter is a human anyway; Here, as a human being, he raises a cry of protest and protests against someone whose hands are stained with the blood of many innocent people. Here, we don’t give him the role of a journalist anymore, but we look at him as a human being, and in my opinion, such a journalist should be appreciated. However, it would have been better if he asked the question in the form of a reporter and challenged the meeting.
In the end, this university professor stated: Anyway, a journalist is also human and sometimes he has to bear a lot of pressure. Journalist work is one of the hard and harmful jobs; Therefore, we give the right to the reporter, but in such meetings, it is better to be a restrained and demanding reporter.
