Putin and Pashinyan talked by phone
The Kremlin Palace announced in a statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Panshinyan spoke on the phone on Friday about Yerevan’s recent steps to get closer to the European Union.
According to RCO News Agency, the Kremlin said in a statement referring to the conversation between the two leaders: “After the meeting of the Eurasian Economic Council held in December 2024, some important issues were discussed to deepen integrated cooperation, especially in the field of energy. Significant practical benefits of joint cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, including for the Armenian economy, were emphasized.
The statement continues: “Pashinyan explained the situation related to Yerevan’s recent actions in the framework of relations with the European Union.” “The Russian leader made relevant comments and evaluations in this regard.”
Last week, the Armenian government supported the legislative initiative of pro-Western forces to start the process of joining the country to the European Union.
