Trump’s choice for the Ministry of Defense was accused of incompetence
Fox News host and President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegst was accused of being unqualified for the position during the Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday.
According to RCO News Agency, US senators are investigating whether Fox News anchor Pete Hegst is fit to lead the country’s military as Secretary of Defense.
According to Sky News, Hegst is a controversial choice due to his past statements and actions, including allegations of sexual harassment, excessive drinking and derogatory views regarding women in military roles and minorities.
Hegst, who was present at the Senate confirmation hearing, said: “The main task that he entrusted to me is to restore the fighting culture to the Department of Defense.”
He further emphasized that Trump, like him, wants a Ministry of Defense focused on “lethality, meritocracy, warfare and accountability”.
“I’m honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with you — from men and women to black and white and everyone of all backgrounds,” Hoggest said in response to a question from another Democrat about his previous comments about the lack of women in military roles. that has a common goal with us – to serve.”
During the hearing — which was interrupted three times by the audience — Republican Sen. Roger Wicker, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said: “Hegst has admitted that he has at times fallen short like all of us.”
He added: “I have no doubt that he will excel in what many of his predecessors have failed to do.”
“Unfortunately, you don’t have the character, integrity, and competence required for this position,” Jack Reed, the top Democrat on the committee, told Heggest.
He added: “Unfortunately, you lack the personality, self-control, and competence necessary for this position.”
The American Democrat went on to say that the investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding Hegst’s background was “inadequate”.
