UN Human Rights Commissioner: We learned about the killing of the Russian journalist
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, while announcing the death of a Russian journalist in a drone attack in Ukraine, refused to comment on the matter and said it did not have enough information about it.
According to RCO News Agency, “Liz Trussell”, the spokesperson of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, said that the organization is aware of the published reports about the death of Russian journalist “Alexander Martmyanov” in the Ukrainian drone attack.
According to the Sputnik News agency, on Saturday, a Ukrainian drone targeted a civilian vehicle at a great distance from the front line of Donetsk. In this attack, Martmyanov was killed and four other Russian journalists were injured.
The spokesperson of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations said: “We are aware of the published reports about the death of a journalist, but we do not have enough information to comment on this issue in detail. However, there is no doubt that journalists should be able to do their work without worrying about whether they will return home. International laws include provisions for their protection, which must be followed.
The war between Russia and Ukraine started in February 2022 and has become one of the biggest humanitarian and political crises. Using drone attacks, the Ukrainian army has repeatedly targeted military installations as well as Russian infrastructure and civilians.
These attacks, in addition to increasing tensions, have led to the deaths of civilians and journalists, especially in areas far from the front line. Reports indicate that thousands of civilians have lost their lives and many others have been injured in this war. In a situation where the developments of the war are not going in the favor of Kiev, the Kremlin warns against the pumping of weapons from the West to Ukraine and emphasizes that this approach will only delay the peace talks.
