Brazil assumed the rotating presidency of the “BRICS” group, focusing on strengthening the cooperation of the countries of the global south.
According to Isna, the government of Brazil announced the country’s rotating presidency of the BRICS group.
In the previous period, Russia presided over the period of BRICS, whose annual meeting was held from October 22 to 24 (November 1 to 3) in Kazan, Russia, and the leaders of many countries attended the meeting.
According to the report of “Xinhua” News agency, the Brazilian government, referring to its goals during the presidency of BRICS, announced: “Brazil will focus on reforming international governance and creating mechanisms to facilitate trade among BRICS members.”
The statement of the Brazilian government continues: “This group is one of the key political and diplomatic associations for the countries of the global south, which focuses on cooperation in various sectors.”
As the host country, until the end of this year, Brazil will organize and monitor the meetings of the working group, bringing together representatives from member countries to discuss and implement their priorities.
Since its inception in 2009, BRICS has championed a multipolar international order and a fair global financial and trading system. The BRICS nations are considering a new reserve currency that would allow their countries greater economic independence.
On January 1, 2024, five countries, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Egypt, became full members of the BRICS group, which is now called BRICS Plus.
The BRICS group was founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China, while South Africa joined the bloc in 2011 and Brazil will hold its rotating presidency in 2025.
