Russia: The current developments stem from Israel’s actions against the Palestinians
The Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations stated in the Security Council meeting: “In the last 10 days, we have seen massive attacks on Yemen. It is necessary to find the root of this crisis, and providing completely one-sided explanations by our western colleagues is not constructive at all. “The current developments stem from Israel’s actions against the Palestinians.”
According to RCO News Agency, “Vasily Nebenzia”, the permanent representative of Russia to the United Nations, said at the meeting of the Security Council: “The conditions in the Middle East are very worrying.” The violence has not only not stopped but is intensifying. More countries in the region are being dragged into this cycle of violence. In the last 10 days, we witnessed massive attacks on Yemen. It is necessary to find the root of this crisis, and providing completely one-sided explanations by our western colleagues is not constructive at all. “Recent developments should be examined with full transparency.”
He added: “The current developments stem from Israel’s actions against the Palestinians.” These actions are being condemned by Arab countries and their citizens. The attacks of the Houthis on Israel on December 20 deserve to be condemned. As far as we know, this missile was destroyed by Israeli air defense and its shrapnel left injuries. Fortunately, there were no casualties.”
Nebenzia stated: “We condemn any attack on civilian facilities and areas, but recent developments, including the Israeli army’s attacks on Yemen, also deserve condemnation. As a result of extensive air attacks on various parts of Yemen, including Sana’a, at least 9 civilians have been killed and Yemen’s energy reserves and port infrastructure have been destroyed. According to Israeli media, Israel’s attack on Yemeni ports was planned in advance. In fact, even before Yemen’s missile attack on Israel on December 19 and 20, Israeli warplanes were flying towards Yemen.
He added: “Israel, with the support of America, has targeted ports, energy facilities, the international airport and other civilian facilities in Yemen. The survival of Tedros Adhanom, the Secretary-General of the World Health Organization, who was present at Sana’a airport at the time of the Israeli attacks, is purely a matter of luck. “Israel has deliberately targeted these areas.”
Nebenzia stated: “England, America and other Western countries, despite expressing their false desire for the freedom of action of the aid forces in Yemen, support the actions of Israel that have put these forces in danger.” According to the Secretary General of the World Health Organization, Israel’s attacks on Yemen’s ports have endangered the lives of aid workers and UN forces.
He added: “It is impossible to describe the actions of Israel and the Anglo-Saxon coalition (America and England) as anything other than the deliberate escalation of tensions. These actions have led to the killing of civilians. If these actions were carried out in retaliation for Houthi attacks, it should be stated that its extent is not comparable to Houthi attacks. We see the same issue in Gaza. The attacks of the Israeli army on Gaza have resulted in the killing of 45,000 civilians.
Nebenzia clarified: “Nevertheless, the Israeli military authorities have emphasized their desire to continue their attacks on Yemen. We ask all parties to stop their attacks on Yemen.”
He added: “January is the anniversary of the start of the illegal attacks of the West under the leadership of the United States and the United Kingdom against Yemen. “This coalition has not solved any problems and is deepening the crises in the region.”
Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations stated at the Security Council meeting: “We ask the countries of the Security Council to understand the events correctly. These attacks (against Yemen) have nothing to do with the right of self-defense and cannot be justified using Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. The actions of the Western coalition against Yemen are a clear violation of international laws and the UN Charter. These actions are nothing but Western attacks against a foreign country.”
He added: “These measures have not led to a reduction of tensions, but are intensifying the crisis in the Middle East and Yemen.” Yemen’s internal conditions can only be resolved through negotiation and dialogue. But some countries of the Security Council are seeking to escalate tensions.”
In the end, Nebenzia said: “In order to solve the Middle East crisis, the main root of this crisis, that is, the Gaza war, should not be ignored. There should be a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the war should stop. “Today, more than anything else, we need negotiation and dialogue.”
After the escalation of tensions between the Zionist regime and Yemen, which led to an intense exchange of fire between the Yemeni armed forces and the Zionist army, the United Nations Security Council has held a special meeting.
