According to Mehr news agency, quoted by Sputnik, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized that the current situation in Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government will not change the strategic partnership agreement between Moscow and Tehran, and this agreement is ready to be signed.
In response to the possibility of amendments to the strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran due to the situation in Syria, Lavrov said: This new “big” agreement, the text and contents of which have been prepared for a long time and reached an agreement between the parties, is comprehensive, long-term and has a “four-chapter” nature. and from this point of view, it does not need any amendments.
According to the senior Russian diplomat, the purpose of the said agreement is to legally consolidate the unprecedented progress that has been achieved in recent years in the bilateral relations of the parties and register their entry into the level of strategic partnership.
He emphasized: Of course, such a comprehensive document definitely has an international element. Among other things, it pays special attention to strengthening interactions in the direction of peace and security in the region and the world, and provides a platform for Moscow and Tehran’s desire to cooperate more closely in the fields of security, defense, fighting terrorism and extremism, and dealing with other common challenges and threats.
Earlier, Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that “the new comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran, as announced by the Russian president in his meeting with the Iranian president, is ready and is going to be signed during an official ceremony.”
