Bild: Germany’s sky is defenseless against Orsnik – Mehr News Agency | RCO News Agency
According to the Mehr news agency, citing Rashatoudi, the German newspaper Bild wrote in a report that the country’s air defense is not able to effectively repel the Russian “Urshanik” surface-to-surface missiles from Berlin.
The Orshnik medium-range hypersonic missile, which is capable of carrying a variety of warheads, including a nuclear warhead, was first used on November 21, and the Russian military used it to attack Ukrainian military-industrial facilities in the city of Dnipro. After that attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the speed of Orshnik was 10 times the speed of sound and could not be intercepted by any existing air defenses.
Bild wrote in a report that the German Foreign Ministry has ordered comprehensive studies on the defense capabilities of Berlin and Kiev in the midst of Russia’s possible ballistic threat. Diplomats of the German Foreign Ministry, in what seemed to be an illegal entry into the territory of the Ministry of Defense of this country, took help from the expertise of a liaison officer and air defense specialists active in the German army.
According to Bild, their conclusion was that “Germany is defenseless against an attack by Orchnik.” Referring to the mentioned documents, Bild warned that the US-made “Patriot” air defense system is not suitable for dealing with long-range ballistic missiles, including Orshnik.
In the assessment of the German Foreign Ministry, it is also stated that “due to the high speed and maneuverability of the Orshanik missile, its possible interception and downing will be a chance.”
Putin said last Thursday that while Moscow does not yet have a large number of missiles and is in no rush to use them, if needed “imminent use is possible.”
