The Economist: Ukraine is planning to attack Russia with internal missiles
British media reported that while the fate of foreign aid to Ukraine is in doubt, this war-torn European country is reviving its missile industry and is apparently looking to develop a missile that can directly target Moscow.
According to Isna, the war in Ukraine will enter its third year in February 2025, and there is still no prospect of ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and this situation continues while the direction of Western aid to Kiev is not clear with the beginning of President Donald Trump’s presidency. Which direction will America’s chosen one move towards?
The Economist writes in a report referring to Ukraine’s secret programs: “While the status of Western aid to Ukraine remains uncertain, the country is revitalizing its missile industry.”
“We may miss our targets, but we will fly this missile over the Russian trenches,” said Serhii Biryukov, who leads a group of engineers and developers of the Ukrainian Termbita cruise missile.
“The Economist” writes about this Ukrainian missile: “The Termbita engine is a $200 modern reconstruction of the Tapjet (Pulsejet) first used in the German V-1 bomb in 1944. A gray rectangular enclosure hangs below it, concealing the missile guidance system and warhead. The original Trembita flies at a speed of 400 km per hour and has a range of 200 km. A bigger and more powerful model is being built to reach Moscow. “The serial production of this missile is going to be done after the final tests.”
This English publication adds: “It is not clear how long Ukraine can count on huge foreign military aid. As a result, Termbita is one of several domestic missile projects that Ukraine hopes to use soon.”
Ukraine has not disclosed the details of this missile program out of fear of Russia’s military power, which has repeatedly destroyed powerful Western weapons on the battlefield.
Not long ago, following the agreement of Ukraine’s western allies with the country’s use of long-range missiles such as the American “ATACMS” missiles and the British “Shadow of the Storm”, the war in Ukraine, which is in its third year, entered a new phase of tensions, and this is while that the Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly announced in its reports that it has destroyed British missiles on the battlefield of Ukraine.
While Ukraine continues to secretly build and develop its domestic missiles, “The Economist” highlights other factors and ups and downs on the country’s path.
This English newspaper emphasizes: “Ukraine still needs time; A factor that seems limited for Ukraine.”
A senior Ukrainian security official admitted: “Ukraine is at least a year away from building missiles that can threaten Russia, and a lot can change before then.”
In the end, this newspaper adds: If “Donald Trump”, the president-elect of the United States, decides to stop Washington’s aid to Kiev, then other Western aid to Kiev will also face restrictions. Also, Russia can impose restrictions on the production of these missiles by using the ceasefire talks. Although the pressure is high, apparently the Ukrainian team will not give up on its missile program.
