Trump called ownership of Greenland a “necessity”.
The US president-elect called his country’s ownership of “Greenland” a “pure necessity” and said the new ambassador to Denmark would do a great job in the US national interest.
According to RCO News Agency, US President-elect Donald Trump wrote in a message on social networks: “For the purposes of national security and freedom around the world, the United States of America feels that ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.”
Greenland, an island located in North America, was a Danish colony until 1953 and is still part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but in 2009 it received autonomy with the ability to self-govern and make independent choices in internal politics.
Trump also said Ken Howery, his pick for US ambassador to Denmark, a former Swedish ambassador and entrepreneur, would do a great job representing US interests.
In 2019, there were a series of media reports about Trump’s decision to buy Greenland. Trump himself later confirmed to reporters that he was “strategically” interested in the issue. At the same time, Greenland announced that the island was not for sale, and Denmark called the sale idea absurd and expressed hope that Trump was joking.
In an interview with MSNBC in August 2020, former US Department of Homeland Security official Miles Taylor said Trump was interested in whether Puerto Rico could be traded for Greenland.
Trump, who won the November elections and is going to the White House for the second time, has recently expressed his hope several times about the annexation of Canada to the American territory and even claimed that most Canadians agree with this and call it Economically, it is in Canada’s favor. He also calls the Prime Minister of Canada “governor”.
