China’s retaliation against Canada
Following the recent action of the Canadian government against the Chinese authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China announced that it has sanctioned 2 Canadian organizations and 20 Canadian individuals in a retaliatory measure.
According to RCO News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China announced in a statement today (Sunday) that the country has imposed sanctions against 2 organizations and 20 Canadian individuals in response to Canada’s recent sanctions against Chinese officials for allegedly violating human rights in Tibet and Xinjiang.
Novosti News agency reported: China has sanctioned the Canadian organizations “Profession for the Protection of Uyghur Rights” and “Canada-Tibet Committee”, as well as 20 employees of these organizations.
China’s sanctions include freezing transferable and non-transferable assets owned by these 2 entities. The embargoed employees of these institutions are also prohibited from receiving Chinese visas and will not be allowed to enter the territory of this country, Hong Kong and Macau.
In addition, Chinese companies and individuals are also prohibited from any cooperation and exchange with these sanctioned entities.
Beijing’s move comes after Canada’s Foreign Ministry imposed sanctions on eight current and former Chinese officials on December 10 for alleged involvement in human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Tibet.
