European NATO member countries are working on deploying forces in Ukraine
Western European leaders are considering the possibility of deploying troops to Ukraine as part of a possible ceasefire agreement with Russia, the Washington Post reported.
According to RCO News Agency, the Washington Post wrote in another section that the negotiations between the heads of Western European countries, which are in the early stages, are being conducted while NATO members are considering measures to provide leverage to Kiev in possible negotiations to end the ongoing conflicts.
This idea was brought up many times during a meeting hosted by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels, which was held on Wednesday with the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other heads of NATO member states.
It was also brought up to US President-elect Donald Trump during recent talks in Paris attended by Zelenskiy and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Officials with knowledge of the talks, who asked not to be named, noted that Trump has expressed interest in the remarks but cannot yet commit to a position because he has not entered the White House.
This proposal is the prospect of a European-led peacekeeping force outside the framework of NATO. European heads of state consider this procedure as a potential security guarantee for Ukraine.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized his readiness for peace talks with Ukraine.
The Washington Post also claimed that the heads of Western European countries saw this proposal as a way to influence the US-led talks with Moscow and show their commitment to Ukraine.
