Orban calls for Christmas truce in Ukraine war
The Prime Minister of Hungary called for a Christmas truce in the Ukraine war and an exchange of prisoners of war between Moscow and Kiev.
According to Isna, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a press conference after the European Council meeting in Brussels in a video message published today (Friday): “We often talk about European values. But I believe that the most important value that is inherently European is life itself. “The most important thing we can do is to save human lives.”
According to Anatolia News agency, he continued his message: “Christmas is near. “Why shouldn’t there be a truce for at least two or three days over Christmas and save lives on the front lines?”
The Prime Minister of Hungary further added: “Christmas is a good reason to exchange Russian and Ukrainian prisoners so that they will be allowed to return to their homes.”
In the meantime, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed Orban’s proposal at his annual press conference and said he was ready to do it, but this proposal was rejected by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
