Poland: We cannot give more military aid to Ukraine
Poland’s deputy defense minister said that Warsaw cannot provide more help to Kiev at the moment.
According to RCO News Agency, Poland’s Deputy Minister of Defense Pawel Zalewski said in an interview with a domestic radio network that his country has reached its limits in providing military aid to Ukraine.
He went on to say that Poland cannot transfer its remaining MiG-29 jets to Ukraine without jeopardizing its national security.
According to Rasha Today, Poland had already delivered a squadron of Soviet-era fighter jets to KBF in early 2023, but still retains some of its jets. Until Warsaw receives US-made F-35 jets to replace its MiG-29 fleet, that option is off the table, Zalewski stressed.
A senior Polish official clarified that Warsaw’s priority is to strengthen its defense forces.
Zalewski also said: Today, our most important goal is to improve the defense capability of the Polish Army, because we believe that we have provided what we could and even more.
At the same time, he added: “Warsaw will continue to actively support Kyiv, but we cannot give more (weapons) than this.” We are running out of stock. I know we hit a wall.
Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kaczyniak Kamiesz reiterated in August that his country had already provided Ukraine with all the weapons it could without compromising its defense capabilities.
Warsaw has ordered a number of US F-35 fighter jets to replace its aging MiG-29s, but the newer jets will not be delivered until 2026.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022, Warsaw has provided more than 4.5 billion euros ($4.7 billion) to Kiev, more than 70 percent of which has been military aid, according to Germany’s Kiel Institute.
