The first shipment of “Abrams” tanks arrived in Taiwan
The first shipment of American Abrams tanks was delivered to the self-governing island of Taiwan.
According to RCO News Agency, the Minister of Defense of Taiwan announced the delivery of the first shipment of American tanks “Abrams” to this self-governing island.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense published a message on the X social network (formerly Twitter) and wrote: “Heavy armor has arrived! Welcome to our group.”
According to Taiwan’s “Focus” newspaper, a shipment of 38 M1A2T Abrams tanks arrived at the port of Taipei on Sunday evening local time.
According to the Sputnik News agency, in 2019, Washington approved a $2.2 billion contract to sell 108 Abrams tanks to Taiwan in order to increase Taiwan’s defense power along the island’s northern coast. Taiwan plans to receive another 42 tanks in 2025, with the remaining 28 scheduled to arrive in 2026.
China, which considers the island an inalienable part of its territory, has repeatedly condemned US arms exports to Taiwan, claiming that the move fuels Taiwan’s separatism.
Taiwan is a self-governing island that China considers a part of its territory and military attack is one of the ways to take it back.
