America announced the successful interception of a ballistic missile from Guam
The US Missile Defense Agency successfully intercepted an intermediate-range ballistic missile target during a test in Guam for the first time, marking a major milestone in the island’s defense capabilities, the Pentagon announced.
According to RCO News Agency, Guam is one of the territories of the United States in the western Pacific Ocean, a strategic military base that is closer to China than Hawaii and plays an important role in maintaining the presence of the United States in the region and deterring possible enemies.
The successful test underscores the Pentagon’s commitment to strengthening Guam’s defenses against evolving missile threats.
During this test, named Flight Experiment Mission-02, the Agis Guam system integrated with the new AN/TPY-6 radar and vertical launch system fired a standard Block IIA missile.
This missile, manufactured by Raytheon Company, successfully intercepted an intermediate-range ballistic missile target on the coast of Andersen Air Force Base.
One of the officials present in this test called it an amazing group effort and emphasized its importance in confirming the joint tracking mechanism and integrated air and missile defense capabilities for Guam.
This successful interception is part of a broader initiative to develop the Guam Defense System (GDS), which aims to provide an advanced integrated air and missile defense system.
