The second shipment of F-16s arrived in Ukraine
Today (Saturday), the president of Ukraine announced the receipt of the second series of F-16 fighter jets made by the United States.
According to RCO News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the country has received the second series of American F-16 fighter jets from Denmark.
He published a message on X social network (former Twitter) and wrote: “The second shipment of F-16s has just arrived from Denmark to Ukraine. It shows cold-heartedness in defense of human beings and has set Denmark apart.”
The first shipment of these fighters was delivered to Ukraine in the summer of this year, and at that time the media reported that Kyiv had received only 10 F-16s. The number of fighters in the second shipment delivered to Ukraine today is unknown.
US President Joe Biden, who at the beginning of the war in Ukraine, was against sending heavy equipment such as fighter jets to Kiev, finally, with a lot of pressure from the Ukrainian government, gave permission. He ordered the delivery of F-16 fighter jets. The United States, which is worried about the escalation of tensions with Russia, has announced that it will not send fighters directly to Ukraine, but to European countries that have done this in the past. They have bought fighters from America, it allows them to send their F-16s to Kiev.
Since these fighters are made by the United States and Washington sold them to Denmark and the Netherlands, these countries needed the approval of the United States to send American fighters to third countries.
Although Biden finally gave the green light to send these fighters to Ukraine in May 2023, it took more than a year to send the first shipment of F-16s to this country, and from the very beginning, their efficiency in the fight against Russia was questioned. is Retired US pilots told Bloomberg that the fighters could not have as much influence on the balance of power on the battlefield as Kiev claims.
On the other hand, since the issue of sending fighters to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian pilots began, the fighting methods of Russia and Ukraine have become drastically different on the battlefield, and the two sides now rely more on weapons and heavy military equipment. They use small and cheap drones.
