Germany seeks to redeploy the Patriot system in Poland
The German Ministry of Defense announced that Berlin has proposed to redeploy units of the Patriot air defense system in Poland.
According to Isna, the German Ministry of Defense announced in a statement that Berlin has recently offered to redeploy Patriot air defense systems in Poland, an ally in the NATO alliance, at the beginning of the new year.
According to the Reuters News agency, the German Ministry of Defense clarified in its statement explaining this proposal that these air defense units can be deployed for more than 6 months.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said: “Through this proposal, we will protect a logistics position in Poland that is of central importance for the delivery of equipment to Ukraine.”
His Polish counterpart, Władysław Kuciniak-Kamisz, also posted on X social media that Warsaw welcomes this decision.
Germany had previously deployed 300 soldiers along with three units of the Patriot defense system in Poland for the period from January to November 2023. The location of these forces and equipment is in the city of Zamosc, located about 50 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, so that they can be used to protect this city located in the south of Poland and the railway line between this country and Ukraine.
The deployment of these units came after a stray Ukrainian missile hit a nearby Polish village in November 2022, raising concerns about the possibility of Ukraine’s war spreading beyond its borders.
