Two Iranian academics arrested in Kazan, Russia were released by the police.
According to RCO News Agency, Kazem Jalali, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, announced the release of these two students on the X social network in a report on the follow-up of the latest situation of the Iranian students arrested in Kazan, Russia, on Saturday morning: “Until this hour of midnight, in A conversation with Mr. Dawood Mirzakhani, the Consul General of our country in Kazan, I was closely involved in the follow-up and the latest situation regarding the mistreatment of Iranian students in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan. According to Mr. Mirzakhani’s statement, the arrested Iranian students have now been released and the students are in good physical condition except for a slight bruise on the edge of their eyes.
He added: “While expressing surprise at this incident, the responsible authorities have assured to start the field investigation and deal with the culprits of this incident.”
Stating that in the consultation, it was decided to improve the situation of issuing visas to Iranian students, he said: “Mr. Araghchi was also following up on the latest situation of these Iranian students many times.”
According to this report, on the morning of Friday, December 2, a number of students studying at Kazan Federal University from different countries, including Uzbekistan, China, Iran, Turkmenistan, etc., will visit the “Visa Extension Center” of the said university to renew their student visas. After a number of students argued with each other and the security of the said center activated the alarm system, the police was sent to the place. The presence of the police and the insistence of the Iranian students led to the continuation of the argument and inhumane and unprofessional beating of the students by the police, and 2 Iranian students were arrested.
