Burrell called for the green light from the Europeans to Ukraine’s long-range attacks in Russia
The European Union’s foreign policy chief has defended Washington’s recent provocative authorization for Kiev to launch long-range missile strikes deep inside Russian territory, arguing that such strikes are in line with international law.
According to RCO News Agency, “Joseph Burrell”, the foreign policy officer of the European Union, said that he hopes that all the countries of the European Union will support such attacks by Ukraine and give it a green light.
In a conversation with reporters, he claimed: “Now the United States has granted this license to attacks deep into Russian territory, in Europe such a license is issued to Ukraine at the domestic level of countries. Some member states are already openly allowing it, others are doing so without saying it, and still others did not say anything yesterday, but I am sure they are following the American example of allowing the Ukrainians to use their weapons to fight with “The Russians will follow within the territory of Russia, because it is from within the territory of Russia that the Ukrainians are being attacked, and this is fully in line with international law.”
The New York Times reported on Saturday, citing American sources, that the President of the United States has authorized the use of ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles by Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory and is going to lift all restrictions on this.
French newspaper Figaro also reported that France and England have granted similar licenses to use their SCALP and Storm Shadow missiles, respectively.
However, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro said Paris had not changed its position on strikes deep into Russia. London has not yet made any official statement.
According to the TASS News agency, the German government confirmed that the United States informed Berlin of the decision to authorize attacks deep into Russia, but the White House has not yet confirmed that such attacks have been authorized.
The European Union’s foreign policy official also suggested on Tuesday that the Union should create defense capabilities for itself, but within the framework of the NATO alliance.
In a conversation with reporters before the meeting of the ministers of this union in Brussels, Josep Borrell said: “The Europeans must have their responsibilities. They should certainly organize their defense system within the framework of the NATO alliance, but build their strategic capabilities. This is the message of the strategic compass that was approved by all member countries. “NATO is a framework for the territorial defense of Europe and there is no doubt about it.”
“But the Europeans should be much more involved in building a defensive fence than being a factory and weapons manufacturer,” Burrell continued.
The European Union’s foreign policy official announced that the European Union has provided military training to more than 65,000 Ukrainian soldiers during its support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.
He continued talking to reporters and said: “We have implemented one of the most ambitious training missions ever seen. “We have trained more than 65,000 Ukrainian soldiers.”
